A super yacht built by a British designer, half of which is covered in gold and is worth an estimated £3billion, is to set sail.

The was built for a Malaysian businessman by British designer Stuart Hughes. It is 30.5m (100ft) long and is claimed to feature around 100,000kg of solid gold and platinum – making it worth a reported £3billion.

Its main sleeping quarter is adorned with platinum accents, including a wall feature made of stone from a meteor - and bone from a Tyrannosaurus Rex.
The hull is also wrapped in a thin layer of gold, while precious metals were used to make the deck, dining area, rails and anchor.

The British-designed yacht was made for a mystery Malaysian businessman and designer Stuart Hughes said it took him three years to complete.
The 40-year-old from Liverpool worked on the commission – called The History Supreme – with a team of eight people. ‘It was probably the most mammoth task ever,’ he said. ‘I’ve covered all sorts of things in gold but this has got to be my most ambitious project yet. This will never be topped.’
Mr Hughes, who has also used gold to customise other luxury goods like iPads and iPhones, added: ‘He wanted a plane doing as well but the thing would never take off if we did.

So he said “can you do the yacht?” and I said we’ll give it a crack and then it was pretty much a case of “can you make this gold, can you make that gold?” We just did what we were told and are delighted with the result.’
The yacht, built in Italy, was completed in Malaysia about two weeks ago. ‘I believe it will be mostly in dry dock, it won’t be used, it is just for show,’ Mr Hughes said.
According to the World Gold Council, some 165,600 tonnes had been mined at their last estimate in 2009, meaning that the craft has nearly one per cent of the world’s gold.

A Russian billionaire has christened his futuristic superyacht 'A' so nothing can precede it in the list of all-time great vessels.

390ft megaYacht "A" - named after his wife Aleksandra

Andrey Melnichenko, 36, has had it custom-built so he and his wife can traverse the world’s oceans in luxury – and cast-iron safety.

The extraordinary shape – the handiwork of Philippe Starck, the French interior designer whose work takes in everything from boutique hotels to kitchen appliances – has been likened to both a first world war battleship and a submarine.

Launched by the same German company that built the Bismarck, the second world war battleship, the 390ft steel yacht is like a modern-day dreadnought. The razor-sharp bow will cut through Arctic ice. Clamshell doors at the rear open upwards to release two 30ft speedboats, ideal tenders for the Mediterranean.

The Rolls-Royce steering system can guide it across the Atlantic in less than seven days. The lack of railings will deter any modern-day pirates of the Caribbean trying to grapple onto the side of the boat.

A spokesman for Melnichenko said: “This is the most technologically advanced private yacht in the world with a brand new design that enables her to cruise at 25 knots without creating a wash, a first in nautical design.”

Melnichenko and his wife Aleksandra, 31 – the inspiration for the name A – can relax in a loft-style apartment that runs more than 80ft, the length of the top deck, and opens onto a balcony at the rear. Should he need to get to his Moscow office in a hurry, there is a helicopter pad on the foredeck.

The couple’s bed sits on a revolving floor so they can turn it to get the best view from the semicircle of full-height windows at the front.

There is the choice of a stainless steel bathtub on a marble floor or a marble shower room.

A door opposite leads to a stairwell and private lift. The steps lead up to the couple’s splash pool on a mini-deck beneath the radio and radar masts. The lift goes down one floor to a gym tucked behind the wheelhouse and bridge.

Below this is the main living space, with a sofa large enough for 10 people and a dining table that can seat 16.

The bulkheads are scalloped and covered with silver leaf, which scatters shards of light around the room like sunlight on water.

The room opens on to a giant “shade” that forms part of the superstructure and covers the main swimming pool, which has a built-in countercurrent.

A third pool on the aft deck has a glass bottom that can be viewed from below by dancers when the garage that houses the speedboats is turned into a discotheque.

Below deck, there are six guest cabins to accommodate up to 14 friends or relatives. Giant tinted oval windows allow them to see out, but stop people prying in, when the 5,900-ton yacht is moored.

As well as the 37-strong crew, the yacht has cabins for five of the Melnichenkos’ staff, including a secretary.

Onboard devices include satellite television, CCTV for security, electronic alarms and a gas detection system.

Most of the necessary, but less sightly, nautical gear, such as anchors, capstan, mooring chains and life rafts are concealed. Even the main navigation lights fold flush into the superstructure, while the front mast retracts into the deck.

David Pelly of Boat International, the “bible” of superyacht owners, called it “the most extraordinary yacht launched in recent memory”. He said: “It is stunning. It reminds me of a world war one battleship while being slightly submarine-like as well.”

The initial shape came from Starck, whose work ranges from designing the Virgin Galactic “spaceport” in New Mexico to developing a stylish juicer. He claims to have come up with the idea for A in 3½ hours.

A yachting insider said: “Philippe got the inspiration from warships, in particular a concept on which the Americans have been working on. All designers need inspiration on which to project their imagination.”

Naval architects, including Britain’s Martin Francis, and Blohm and Voss, the German shipbuilders, spent another five years perfecting the boat.

A miniature version was built and floated in a ship tank on the Isle of Wight to test for seaworthiness.

Then a radio-controlled model was produced and sailed on the Solent to ensure the design’s elongated bulbous bow would not dive like a submarine in heavy seas. Finally, the vessel was built at a Kiel shipyard.

The A has a range of 6,500 nautical miles, enough to sail from London to Cape Town before refuelling.

Melnichenko’s superyacht has cost him £200m, but he is used to splashing out. He paid £1.5m to Christina Aguilera to sing two songs at his wedding on the Côte d’Azur in 2005 and paid Jennifer Lopez £500,000 to entertain at Aleksandra’s 30th birthday party in Britain last year.

“Andrey is a self-made man and hates being called an oligarch,” said a friend. “His money has nothing to do with oil.”

Melnichenko has made all those involved in the creation of A agree to confidentiality clauses forbidding them to talk about the craft.

A spokeswoman for Blohm and Voss said: “It’s a wonderful ship and we are very proud of her, but we are not allowed to give out any information.”

Starck said: “I’m sorry, but the owner of the boat doesn’t wish to communicate on the boat.”

The launch of A has put Melnichenko on collision course with Roman Abramovich, Russia’s best known oligarch and is likely to spark a race to see who can sail the best yacht. The winner is hardly in doubt: at the most recent calculations, Melnichenko, who founded the MDM Bank in 1993, which handles Abramovich’s accounts, was valued at £2.3 billion to the Chelsea football club owner’s £11.7 billion.

The A is 13ft longer than the Pelorus, the largest of Abramovich’s three super yachts.

However, Abramovich, 41, now has another on order which is due to be launched at the end of this year at a cost of £240m. At 613ft long and weighing 13,000 tons, it will be the world’s largest superyacht. Not for nothing will it be called the Eclipse.

Nero MotorYacht with a Historical Look

The 209-foot Nero may look historic, but she's as modern as motoryachts come. Her owner wanted a boat that harkened back to the romantic designs of the late 1800s and early 1900s while incorporating up-to-date features. He thought about a restoration, but decided that to truly have the best of both yachting eras, building new was the only option. He created the company Corsair Yachts and flew a team of Western experts to a Chinese shipyard. The result is a breathtaking, classic design that boasts zero-speed stabilizers and more.

Though she launched in 2007, Nero first entered charter in winter 2008, when she wowed brokers at the St. Maarten show. Particularly striking was the yacht's audiovisual system, which includes a cinema room with a 95-inch-wide screen and 9.1 THX Dolby Digital Sound. Nero also has an outdoor cinema with a 90-inch-wide screen and 7.1 THX Dolby Digital Sound.

Pacific Wave

Pacific Wave is a 1986 one-off from an Italian consortium that built an America's Cup contender before creating Pacific Wave as a private vessel for the group's attorney. The current captain, Lynn Griffiths, became the 72-foot sloop's fifth owner in June 2008 after spending countless years chartering bareboats for regatta races. Griffiths spent her first three months of ownership refitting Pacific Wave, which had already undergone two previous refits to keep the ship in top form.

The most recent refit included adding charter-friendly details such as Egyptian cotton linens, waffle robes, luxury towels, Villeroy & Boch china and crystal, and Molton Brown spa products. "We may be the same size sailboat with similar rates as other charter yachts," Griffiths said at the Antigua show, "but we're trying to offer what I would expect on my own holiday, which is a better experience."

Azzurra II

This 157-foot CRN was built in 1988, completed a $7 million refit in early 2004, and underwent another refit in 2008 that included renovating the top deck in a way that left brokers smiling at the St. Maarten show. Though Azzurra II is an older yacht, she has many modern amenities including zero-speed stabilizers, WiFi throughout, and a 50-inch drop-down plasma television for movie nights under the stars. She also offers a forward, on-deck master suite with 21 total windows climbing up and around the king-size bed for extraordinary views.

Capt. Will Keiser has a long, successful history in the charter industry and has been aboard Azzurra II since November 2006. Previously, he ran the 156 Broward Inspiration and the 118 Hatteras Nirvana, both of which also enjoyed strong reputations.

Coco Loco

Coco Loco's brochure lists her as a 2007 build because that's when her owner took control in the shipyard, but she didn't launch until 2008, and she made her winter charter debut at the St. Maarten show. She is hull number two in Broward's 124-foot Wide Body Series with an extended swim platform and a hidden compartment for keeping Jet Skis off the on-deck guest areas.

Interior details include Egyptian cotton and silk linens, inlaid limestone marbles(actual round marbles, as opposed to slabs or slivers), and cappuccino-colored onyx quartz. Coco Loco is the owner's first charter yacht, and he plans to protect these décor investments by accepting charters primarily from families and low-key groups who won't get rowdy with red wine on the plush carpeting.

Beverley

The 121-foot Beverley was one of three new Benetti launches that Camper & Nicholsons International displayed at the Antigua show. While the 197-footers Xanadu and Amnesia stood out for their size, Beverley's interior décor drew its own share of attention. Interior decorator Geraldine Darlington of Cannes-based Interieursud worked with designer Francois Zuretti to create a memorable main salon rich in warm wood tones, brown leathers, and burnt-orange fabric detailing. The yacht's exterior spaces, too, offer flashes of color including deep red pillows on plush, oversized dining and lounge chairs. For additional outdoor fun, Beverley offers a custom-built, 19-foot Pascoe tender that seats 11 guests and cruises at 40 knots, thanks to a 190-horsepower Volvo-Penta inboard diesel. Experienced charter Capt. Gary Bush joined Beverley prior to the yacht's build and thus knows every circuit, gasket, and feature.

The hip-hop impresario in a lounge aboard his rented 262-ft yacht RM ELEGANT ("my bonus to myself," he said) about three hours before the bash started in Saint-Tropez.

Diddy and his pals – among them Penelope Cruz and Paris Hilton – worked hard at partying - It has been reported that Diddy even missed the start of his own famous White party (this year at the Nikki Beach Club instead of in the Hamptons) because he had partied too much on the yacht the night before.

According to the Daily Record he paid £250,000 to rent the yacht. The yacht sleeps 30 in 15 cabins and has a Jacuzzi on the top deck.

There was caviar, cake and hip-hop, and even fans standing dockside got Champagne. Renting the RM Elegant, a 262-ft. yacht in Saint-Tropez for his July 31 Unforgivable 50 party (celebrating his fragrance, Unforgivable), Diddy made sure the bash was pure indulgence. "I wanted to really celebrate," he told PEOPLE. "This week is the only time I get to have a vacation."

Party he did, with more than 130 glam guests who feasted on steak and danced to songs from his upcoming album Press Play. Even Paris Hilton deemed the goings-on "decadent." The next afternoon, Diddy, 36, was back in party mode, hosting his annual White Party on the beach and bouncing on a trampoline with his sons Justin, 12, and Christian, 8—who, of course, were on the guest list for both bashes. Oculus is the Latin word for eye - It is not hard to notice the large eye shaped design feature in the rear of the boat.

In addition to the bow, Oculus also features a “low rider profile”. This slightly lowered surface allows for new side recreational areas, alternate dockage access and light cruising openness. Lateral retractable side panels close this area when heavier wave action is indicated.

The interior features of Oculus focus on a 12 foot high ceiling in the main salon, a cylindrical double height dining room, central stair and elevator tube, and seemingly anatomical ceiling and floor lighting extensions giving definition to the seating areas.

The second level is the dedicated Owner’s suite. Living areas and bed chambers are divided by a series of four free-standing tubes, which house bath and storage necessities.

In addition to the main common stair, the second Owner’s stair connects to the third level aft private salon and deck / water feature.

The third level also contains the forward pilothouse and separate captain’s quarters. The generous open decks with separate water features are located forward and aft for convenient guest use. Specifications and plans are in the final stages of completion and will be posted at a later time.

I found out about this extraordinary timepiece a while ago. So far I only admired the look and style the boats represent but from now I surely admit: Everything and I mean EVERYTHING is mind blowing and glamorous around yachts. Even a tiny accessory like a wristwatch: The Rolex Yacht Master is a fantastic looking watch. It has become my favourite watch for now. It is certainly not cheap hence the circa £5000 price tag. If you are a yacht owner you gotta keep that look up somehow! It'll be easy with this bad boy on you.

Azimut Yachts

Azimut Yachts offer the best combination of features and benefits to its lucky owners. The Azimut 85, which premiered at the Genoa Boat Show in October 2005, is luxury afloat at its finest. It is very difficult to begin a sentence with a company that prefers not to capitalize its name or products, such as eLuxury, iPod, or oceAnco. However, what oceAnco does capitalize wisely are its resources when it comes to designing and building superyachts. The firm has built some of the finest 50-meter-plus vessels to clientele around the world. Its main office is in Monaco, and its shipyard is based in Albasserdam, Holland. The yacht builder's Web site boasts of 16 launched boats. Over the past three years, oceAnco has launched three stunning 60-meter-plus yachts: the Lady Lola at 62.6 meters, the Alfa Four at 60 meters, and the Dilbar at 66 meters. The Dilbar has two master suites and a dip pool on its sundeck that is over 15 feet wide. Azimut 105 - An Italian masterpiece

Italian yachts are such strong sellers in the American market. To get a better understanding why you have to see the Azimut 105.

Azimut is a sister company of one of the big names "Benetti". The Italian builders have worked very hard to maximize production efficiencies and keep prices competitive, while continually introducing new models to stimulate interest. An excellent example is the Azimut 105, an all-new flying-bridge design that replaces the company’s venerable 100-foot Jumbo.

The Azimut 105 is available in two basic arrangements. The standard arrangement has the owner’s stateroom up, the optional with it down.

The owner-up version has a master stateroom that rivals those aboard much larger yachts. Narrow side decks result in a nearly full-beam house, which allows the space necessary for a king berth, a comfortable sitting area with two chairs to port and a desk/vanity to starboard. The wow moment, though, comes when you descend a few steps to the bath and dressing area forward. It occupies the space that would normally be filled with two crew cabins.

On the forward bulkhead is a huge tub, complete with a clear side panel that echoes the oversized window in the 105’s hullside. It provides an aquarium-tour experience unlike any other. Opposite, on the aft bulkhead, is a glass-enclosed trapezoidal shower that’s large enough—roughly five feet by seven—to host a small party. His and hers sinks flank the tub, and there are hanging lockers here as well as in the main part of the stateroom.

The crew cabins, one with a double berth and one with upper and lower twins, have been shifted aft and given a separate stairway from the galley. The four guest staterooms lie between the crew and the engineroom, and are accessed via a curved stairway from the entry foyer on the starboard side. The two forward staterooms, fitted with twin berths and Pullmans, each has an en suite head with shower. The two aft VIP staterooms have queen berths and benefit from the big three-panel hullside windows evident in the 105’s profile.

Our test boat, as mentioned, had the country kitchen and media room, an arrangement that Azimut developed in deference to the American market and our generally more relaxed cruising style. A media room, outfitted for big-screen entertainment, lies just aft of the galley.

Belowdecks, the crew cabins are returned to their usual position in the bow, and again, four staterooms are situated between the crew and the engineroom, but in a different arrangement. There’s a single full-beam VIP stateroom forward with queen berth, and two twin-berth guest cabins with Pullmans, port and starboard, all with en suite heads.

Aft is the owner’s suite with a king berth, his and hers heads with a large shower between them, and a spacious walk-in closet and dressing room. This stateroom lies in the way of the hullside windows and takes full advantage of them. To port is a desk/dressing table that runs the length of the room, and to starboard is a sitting area with two lounges and small table between them. Whether used for the ultimate in intimate dining, for quiet reading, or for catching up on a bit of unavoidable paperwork, this is a fabulous little nook that evokes another wow moment.

The remainder of the arrangement plan is common between the two versions of the Azimut 105. The dining area and saloon, with three sofas to port, share a single space with a small bar and an entertainment center to starboard. It is a relaxing layout, but the modern interior décor, with its crisp lines and clean details, keeps it more sophisticated than casual. The joinerwork is cherry, finished in a dark matte on my test boat and a high gloss on the other, both with teak decks. Aft is a curved glass bulkhead with a sliding door that leads to the open deck, which is protected from the sun and rain by the extended bridge deck above. A large curved settee overhangs the transom, with a table adjacent for alfresco dining. Twin stairways lead to the integral swim platform, and a passerelle slides out of the upper end of the stair when needed for stern boarding.

The pilothouse has a leaning post in lieu of a helm chair, but for long runs, a nearby L-settee and table are convenient. A skylight in the starboard side of the console floods the entry foyer below with natural light. A second helm station is up a few steps on the flying bridge, situated to port of the steps. Optional hardtops cantilever forward and aft from the central radar arch, providing shade to the bar and dinette that lie amidships. Accordion-fold panels in the hardtops open when sun is preferred. There’s also a whirlpool spa and sunpads aft, plus space for lounge chairs. Tenders are stored below in a garage aft of the engineroom.

The engineroom is a compact space, but is well arranged, well finished and fairly accessible. The engines are fitted with V-drive gears and include shrouds over the jackshafts for safety. The V-drive configuration yields a flatter shaft angle for better propulsive efficiency and less likelihood of propeller cavitation.

Newest superyacht oozes luxury

Like the island resort made famous by the Beach Boys, the superyacht Kokomo, which was launched in Auckland yesterday, is all luxury.

The 52-metre, high-performance aluminium sloop, which was built by Auckland company Alloy Yachts, was bought by Australian businessman and property developer Lang Walker. Mr Walker was estimated last year to be worth A$1.16 billion ($1.4 billion).

Marketing director for Alloy Yachts Clive Bennett would not divulge how much the boat cost but said: "A boat of similar dimensions sold on the international market for about $50 million recently."

He said the boat was "the custom-built Rolls-Royce of superyachts".

The Kokomo took nearly two years to complete and was launched from the Whau River in Henderson into Waitemata Harbour yesterday.

The yacht has a beam of 10.2m, draws 4.9m and has a design displacement of 340 tonnes. It has a 1200hp engine, and on-board systems supported by two 80 kiloWatt generators.

It has a range of 5900 nautical miles (10,926km), travelling at 10 knots (19km/h).

A 63.4m carbon-fibre mast is to be installed today at the Westhaven marina. The rig includes a crow's-nest 30m above the deck.

Mr Bennett said Kokomo was designed to be at sea for extensive periods. It has spacious interiors and accommodation that could easily house 20 crew. There is a large saloon and formal dining area for up to 10 guests.

"It has the owner's suite and four guest suites all with their own private facilities and ensuites. This is the five-star equivalent of the best hotel rooms but on the sea," Mr Bennett said.

The boat also has state-of-the-art communications, with internet, global receiving and tracking systems. There are five touch-screen monitors located throughout the yacht to indicate system and alarm status.

The boat will undergo further tests to determine its sea-worthiness over the next few weeks before setting sail. It is understood the owner is going to next year's America's Cup regatta in Europe.
